The bastards got me

Integrity and intellectual honesty can lead a person out of the dogmatic prison of Christianity and the blatant profiteering of religious organisations

This is by far the longest poem I’ve ever written. It’s available on video at my YouTube channel here but I wanted to put out the text itself.

It’s not exactly brilliant poetry although I hope it’s not actually terrible. It is heartfelt though. This narrative poem describes my journey into and out of Christianity. Here I describe the cynical, opportunist exploitation of the evangelist, preying upon the desperate, the grief stricken and the depressed. I explain, at least in principle the not so subtle ‘carrot and stick’ trap that leads people to abandon actual knowledge in favour of bronze age stories written by people who genuinely didn’t know where the sun went at night.

Finally I explain how integrity and intellectual honesty can lead a person out of the dogmatic prison of Christianity and the blatant profiteering of religious organisations.

It’s Trump day!

British politicians nod and smile, Pretending to believe the shit he peddles

It’s not ‘hump day’, It’s ‘Trump day’, When an orange fash dictator is allowed off the plane, To spread his vile and oh so stupid lies, While British politicians nod and smile, Pretending to believe the shit he peddles, As he fails to understand the real world before his eyes!

That’s when the bastards got me!

The God of Abraham’s not a shit,
He’s just a myth that doesn’t fit,
The modern world because we know
Too much.

I wondered how I could have been so blind

Genocide and slavery

Gaslighting and rape

All sanctioned, even ordered

By this God of perfect love

Arbitrary punishments

Capricious twists of fate

Hypocrisy, failed prophecy,

Sadism and hate!

The devaluing of woman

Only useful when they breed

A receptacle for callous

Selfish men to sew their seed

And I realised in trembling fear

Shredding many a heartfelt tear

That this hateful God was far from good

No one with integrity could

Support its vile crimes

Suicide and Christian compassion

The superficial nonsense that passes for morality in the Christian worldview just won’t cut it in the real world of human distress and actual desperation.

Having spent the last 30 odd years of my life dealing with ACTUAL suicidal people – not the imaginary ‘armchair’ kind Dennis seems to be thinking of – I just had to respond.

The fact that Christian doctrine can add insult to injury so callously is just one more piece of evidence to demonstrate how utterly broken and immoral the Christian worldview truly is!

The God club’s rules

Your religion has rules,
OK follow those too,
But know that they only apply to you.

Go ahead, do your thing,

It’s no skin off my nose,

Until you start claiming,

Your Holy book knows,

How others should live,

And you start to impose,

Your rules and your hatred,

Then we become foes.

Christian threats of Hell

Christians regularly impugn the characters of atheists without ever considering the implications of their own tactics

Whenever a Christian threatens you with Hell, no matter how smugly they do so it pays to consider just what they’re telling you about themselves. I don’t just mean the shameful delight they take in the prospect of another person’s suffering, that’s clear to anyone. I mean the implication of their choice of threat.

What does it tell you, tell the world about them when they suppose that threats of Hell will be enough to make you bow down before their imaginary God?

You cherry-pick your Holy book,
Ignore the homeless beggar as you look
The other way
Complaining every day
About the taxes that you have to pay.

When you have to lie to make your point, your point isn’t worth making!

Original sin: Does it make sense to you?

Two people who I never knew did something that I didn’t do, so I deserve to burn in Hell!

I can be forgiven for what I didn’t do, because some other people crucified a bloke who didn’t do it too!

I didn’t do it! I’m not guilty of it!

What a coincidence!

Isn’t it amazing how often what God commands coincides with what the preacher wants?
