Numbers 31: Genocide, Infanticide, Misogyny and Sexual slavery

What your Pastor won’t tell you.

What your Pastor won’t tell you: Genocide, murder, infanticide, Regicide, misogyny, kidnapping and sexual slavery. And all that in just 18 #Bible verses at the beginning of Numbers 31!

Love the sinner

This “Love the sinner, hate the sin” nonsense we hear from Christians is nothing more than a deceitful platitude. It’s a way to treat people hatefully and still pretend to be loving

This “Love the sinner, hate the sin” nonsense we hear from Christians is nothing more than a deceitful platitude. It’s a way to treat people hatefully and still pretend to be loving when called out about it. There is nothing loving about removing the rights of LBQT or trans people. There’s no love in denying access to public goods to non-binary citizens, These are hateful acts.

People have rights

We shouldn’t attack or hurt people for their beliefs

Ideas are up for grabs but people have rights. We shouldn’t attack or hurt people for their beliefs. They have a right to hold the beliefs they do. It’s unfortunate that so many Christians think that only applies to them. The rest of us can go to Hell where the God of love and mercy will see to it that we’re tortured forever.

Peace that passeth all understanding

If you want to experience the peace that passeth all understanding – you’ll find it much easier to achieve through secular means.

Christians promise an indwelling peace, ‘the peace of the spirit’ when people submit themselves the their Lord, Jesus. It’s this promise of peace that prompts them to claim that atheists are miserable. There’s only one problem – it’s nonsense. I spent 10 years trying to find that peace and I can tell you – it’s a lie.

But don’t despair. If you want to experience the peace that passeth all understanding – you’ll find it much easier to achieve through secular means. Try this instead…

Whence cometh morality?

An old school friend of mine, now an Anglican vicar, seems to think that atheists’ morality has no real backing.

An old school friend of mine, now a vicar in the Anglican church has a particular view about the source of morality. He also seems to think that atheists can have no real backing for their morality because it’s not ‘transcendent’ at base. It doesn’t come from the mind of God, in other words. This video is my response to that position.

In answering his question I’ve borrowed shamelessly from Matt Dillahunty, Sam Harris and one or two others but hey ho – it’s still good info wherever it comes from and nobody thinks up everything all on their own. The video’s a bit rough because I made it in a hurry but I think the point holds well enough. Facebook might be interesting tonight!

Evil atheists?

Many religious people will tell you that it is impossible for humans to behave well without a God belief. In that case, I’m glad they’re religious, if that’s the best they can manage.

Many religious people will tell you that it is impossible for humans to behave well without a God belief. They claim that without superstitious magical thinking people will go around raping, murdering, stealing, cheating and doing all sorts of horrendous things. Whenever people talk about ALL humans they’re really just talking about themselves – the only human they really understand. In that case, I’m glad they’re religious, if that’s the best they can manage.

Chicken or egg?

Come on then, Col… Let’s ‘ave yer!

An old mate of mine challenged me yesterday to make a video which, I think I correctly discerned was a challenge to evolutionary theory. It’s difficult to be sure because all he said was “chicken or egg” in a thread that had nothing to do with evolution and when I suggested that’s what he meant he replied only “do it”.

I’m pretty sure he’s just trolling. I suspect he’s not really a creationist but hey ho, I may be wrong. The deal is we debate it next Sunday.

My suggestion is via zoom with both recording it and both free to publish, unedited wherever we like. 6pm OK for you, Col?

Chicken or egg?

God the abuser

He only hurts me because he cares.

It’s for my own good.

I can’t cope without him.

I deserved it.

I provoked him.

These are all things I’ve heard victims say when I speak with those unfortunate enough to be on the wrong side of domestic abuse. They’re the words of abusers internalised and repeated by the abused. It’s remarkable just how often Christians say the same things about their God.
